It’s only polite that I introduce myself first, right? My name is Katie Bergamaschi and I’m the artist behind Studio Bergamot. I figured my surname was not going to be an easy ask for most people to recall, so I named my business after the bergamot fruit. Bergamot comes from Italy (like me), is zesty and vibrant (also me), and has a refreshing fragrance (OK, perhaps we should get to know each other better first!).
I’m incurably curious, doing everything from interior decoration to outdoor education, and psychology to project management. But a love of art has been a common thread woven through all my life, and now I have the immense privilege to make it my career. I believe the world is better with art. Art speaks a different language which can connect the artist and viewer in a way that words can’t. Creating beauty that speaks to people is what gets me truly passionate and why I believe in the power of art.
My work is a mixture of physical art, digital art and photography. I have won awards for my charcoal work on paper, and been commissioned for watercolours. I have studied colour and design, painting, drawing, pottery, photography and surface pattern design, with each discipline influencing the others. Making unusual connections across art forms really lights me up! My aim for my art is to never be boring.
